PV, a father of three sons and five daughters comes from an agricultural family .He became minister for the first time in Andhra Pradesh government in 1962 when he took charge of law and information portfolios. YSR has come a long way from the time he first contested the Assembly elections in 1978 from Pulivendula consistency, which has been a Congress stronghold.

YSR born to Raja Reddy and Jayamma, had his schooling in Venkatappa School in Pulivendula. YSR did medicine from MR Medical College, Gulberga. The politician in him came to the limelight when he was elected as the student union leader.
